Operating Guidelines

 

Purpose:

to provide advice and support to the Outside School Hours Care Service (OSHC) and Centacare in relation to local issues to ensure the successful operation of the service.

  1. General Principles
    1. OSHC is an apostolate of the local parish. Along with the parish school and other parish activities, they are a response by the parish to meet the needs of the local community in a seamless process in a Catholic Church environment and in accordance with Church teachings.
    2. OSHC is owned by the parish and operates through the sponsorship of the archdiocese which is necessary to secure and maintain government financial support for parents and facilitate essential licensing and accreditation processes.
    3. The Archbishop has approved the management of OSHC by Centacare Vicariate of the Archdiocese of Brisbane.
    4. To ensure the best service is provided to families accessing OSHC, Centacare and the Parish will collaborate in relation to the OSHC operations and Centacare will develop a broad range of policies and strategies to facilitate the effective operation of the OSHC.
  2. Structure of the Committee
    1. Members of the Advisory Committee and the Chair are appointed by the Director, Centacare Child Care Services with the agreement of the Parish Priest. They may include the Parish Priest or his nominee, the School Principal or her/his nominee, parents and other interested stakeholders in the local community.
    2. The term of office for all Advisory Committee members shall be up to two years and all members shall be eligible for re-appointment.
    3. The Director Child Care Services after consultation with the Parish Priest may, in exceptional circumstances, remove the Chairperson or committee members at any time.
    4. Members of the Advisory Committee who are not parents of children attending the OSHC are required to be holders of a current "Working with Children - Suitability Card".
